Jeff Siembieda
Hired by ESPN Regional Television in June of 2006, Jeff Siembieda is the Executive Director of the New Mexico Bowl, a college football bowl game to be played annually at University Stadium on the campus of the University of New Mexico. The inaugural contest took place on Saturday, December 23rd of 2006. Played in front of 34,111 fans in University Stadium and a national television audience on ESPN, San Jose State beat New Mexico 20-12. The 2008 New Mexico Bowl is scheduled for Saturday, December 20 and will once again put a team from the Mountain West Conference against a team from the Western athletic conference. Jeff is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the bowl event, from dinners and the pep-rally, to game day.
Jeff is a veteran of the New Mexico sports scene. He currently co-hosts a daily two-hour sports talk show, “The Opening Drive” on 610 The Sports Animal in Albuquerque. Before joining ESPN, Jeff served as the Deputy Director of the New Mexico Sports Authority, a position to which he was appointed by Governor Bill Richardson in May of 2005. He came to New Mexico in August of 1996 as the weekend sports anchor/reporter at KOAT-TV. Jeff was promoted to sports director in May of 1997, a position he held until 2001. While at KOAT, Jeff was honored by the New Mexico Broadcasters Association and Associated Press for excellence in sports casting and reporting. In 2001, Jeff joined the New Mexico Scorpions hockey club as Vice President of Media and Entertainment. That year the Scorpions were recognized by the Central Hockey League as the top marketing franchise in the league. In January of 2002, Jeff joined KRQE-TV as the weekend news anchor and was named the anchor of the morning newscasts in September of that year; a position he held until February of 2005. Jeff also hosted “The Big Show”, a daily two-hour sports talk show on 1310 The Ticket in Albuquerque from January of 2005 through January of 2007. He can also be heard calling play-by-play of various sports events around the state.
Before coming to New Mexico, a graduate of San Diego State University worked in television and radio in San Diego, Yakima and Tri-Cities, WA. Jeff is very involved in youth sports. From 2001-2005 he coached basketball at Madison Middle School in Albuquerque and spent the summers of 2004 and 2005 coaching and traveling with New Mexico’s elite AAU U-14 and U-15 boys basketball teams. Jeff has one daughter, Addison.
